Chong-Alay State Natural Park to appear in Kyrgyzstan

Bishkek, Jan.17, 2025. /Kabar/. The Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology and Technical Supervision of Kyrgyzstan has submitted for public discussion a draft decree of the Cabinet of Ministers “On the formation of the Chong-Alay State Natural Park in Chong-Alay region of Osh Oblast”.

According to the document, the initiative was developed in order to ensure the preservation of unique natural complexes and biological diversity, protection of rare and endangered species of fauna and flora of Chong-Alay, in order to expand the network of specially protected natural areas of the Kyrgyz Republic, and in accordance with the positive attitude of the population.

The area of the planned national park will be 66,830.79 ha.

Establishment of the Chong-Alay State Natural Park will contribute to the implementation of extensive measures aimed at the conservation of species/subspecies of animals and higher plants listed in the Red Book of the Kyrgyz Republic and the International Union for Conservation of Nature, such as snow leopard, brown bear, Central Asian otter, Turkestan lynx, golden eagle, bearded vulture, black vulture, kumai, Alayan shieldbill, Turkestan catfish, Christoph's jaundice, Romanov's parnasset, evasive alaya, Kostychev's prostrel.
