Kyrgyz ambassador to Pakistan meets with president of ECOSF

Bishkek, Jan. 21, 2025. / Kabar /. On January 20, 2025, the Embassy of the Kyrgyz Republic in Pakistan hosted a meeting between Ambassador Avazbek Atakhanov and a delegation of the Economic Cooperation Organization Science Foundation (ECOSF) consisting of the President of the Foundation Professor Seyid Komail Tayebi, Executive Director of the Foundation Dr. Ghulam Muhammad Memon, and Administrative Manager Ghulam Abbas Rahar.

The ambassador warmly welcomed the delegation, noting the importance of the activities of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Science Foundation in strengthening scientific ties and implementing joint projects in the field of science, technology and innovation to stimulate economic growth and integration in the region. At the same time, detailed information was given on the achievements of Kyrgyzstan over the past 4 years, including in the field of science and scientific research, using the example of the modernization of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic.

For his part, the President of the ECO Science Foundation, Professor Seyyed Komail Tayebi, informed the Ambassador about the results of 2024 and the Fund's plans for 2025, expressing his readiness to closely cooperate with Kyrgyzstan on all issues of mutual cooperation, inviting Kyrgyzstan to take an active part in the international conference to be held in Islamabad on April 15-16, 2025 on the theme: The Leveraging Science, Technology and Innovation for Regional Connectivity and Sustainable Development .

Professor Tayebi also reported on the implementation of joint projects with Chinese institutions within the framework of the Belt and Road International Science and Technology Education Consortium (BRISEC).

The parties agreed to provide the necessary assistance in the development and strengthening of mutual ties in the field of science, technology and innovation between the ECO countries.

At the end of the meeting, Professor Tayebi thanked the Ambassador for the productive discussion and invited him to visit the ECOSF office in the very near future. For reference: The ECO Science Fund was established on the basis of the ECO Charter, in accordance with the Izmir Treaty of 12 March 1977. The ECO Science Fund, headquartered in Islamabad, is a specialized agency of ECO that aims to promote the training of highly qualified scientific personnel and the advancement of scientific research among member countries. The ECO Council of Ministers (COM) at its 3rd meeting held on 6-7 February 1993 in Quetta, Pakistan, called for the establishment of such an institution by 1995. The Charter of the Fund was signed by all 10 member countries at the 3rd ECO Summit in 1995 in Islamabad. The Fund is also accredited as an observer/stakeholder to the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES), based in Bonn, Germany.
