Kyrgyzstan, Ethiopia discuss prospects of trade and economic co-op

Bishkek, Jan.17, 2025. /Kabar/. First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan Asein Isaev met in Addis Ababa with Minister of Finance of Ethiopia Ahmed Shide.

The press service of the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry reported that Isaev informed in detail about the socio-economic development of the country and the ongoing reforms under the leadership of President Sadyr Zhaparov.

He also expressed readiness to establish close contacts with Ethiopia in the field of trade and economic cooperation as the country is considered the political capital and trade gateway of Africa.

In turn, the Ethiopian finance minister noted that despite the geographical distance between the countries, Ethiopia is sincerely interested in developing trade with Kyrgyzstan. Ethiopia's GDP at the end of 2024 amounted to USD 210 billion, ranking fifth in Africa with a population of more than 120 million people.

The Kyrgyz side proposed to sign an agreement on avoidance of double taxation between the countries, and invited Ahmed Shide to visit Kyrgyzstan.
