Kyrgyzstan, WB discuss current projects and prospects for co-op until 2026

Bishkek, Jan. 16, 2025. / Kabar /. Minister of Emergency Situations Boobek Azhikeev met on Tuesday in Bishkek with the World Bank Country Manager for Kyrgyzstan Hugh Riddell.

The emergency ministry reported that the sides discussed current projects and prospects for cooperation until 2026.

The main focus was on fire safety issues, including the creation of new fire and rescue units, updating machinery and equipment.

The sides also discussed the measures to strengthen protective dams, improve hydrometeorological services and improve the environmental situation, including reducing air pollution. These initiatives are aimed at protecting the population and territories from emergency situations.

Boobek Azhikeev thanked the World Bank for its long-term support, noting the importance of joint efforts in the fight against climate change. In turn, Hugh Riddell emphasized the high level of interaction with Kyrgyzstan, especially in the field of emergency prevention and response.

Currently, the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Kyrgyz Republic is implementing the World Bank projects “Strengthening Resilience to Natural Disaster Risks in Kyrgyzstan” and “Sustainable Restoration of Landscapes in the Kyrgyz Republic” within the framework of the RESILAND CA+ Program, aimed at reducing disaster risks.
